Funeral Poem for Grandma

The inspiration behind these verses came from my 85 year old grandmother, Alina. She has always been a big fan of poetry, so I can't wait to share some of these poems with her.

The first verse mentions a few great qualities that our grandmothers possess. In order to list all their good characteristics, it would have turned out to be a very long poem.

You may use the second one to simply thank your precious grandmother for everything that she has done (for so many years).

You'll also find a specific one written for Grandmother's Day.

I really enjoyed writing the funny one that talks about grandma walking to the store and forgetting pretty much everything.

Grandma

Your grandma is someone, you may depend,

A thoughtful lady, and wonderful friend.

About life, she understands,

Delicious food, magical hands.

Your grandma listens, with an open heart,

Has been there for you, right from the start.

She knows how to make things better,

Forget about email, write her a letter.

Your grandma will always love you dearly,

Tell her you love her, true and sincerely.

No matter the age, she has recently turned,

For your well-being, she's forever concerned.

By Martin Dejnicki

We all know that the last line of that poem applies to all grandmothers.

It's just very natural for grandma's to be very concerned about their grandchildren.

I know my grandmother is always showing concern about all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

That's probably why we don't tell her "everything" that is going on, because we simply don't want to stress her out or worry her.

Grandmothers do a lot for us. They help raise us, and teach us how to be good human beings. For everything they do, grandmothers deserve a little thank you. At the very least, the following poem:

Thank You Grandma

Thank you Grandma, for all you have done,

You shine brightly, just like the sun.

When I was a child, stories you'd read,

Took care of me, when I'd fall and would bleed.

Thank you Grandma, for all you have done,

A special lady, that knows how to have fun.

The entire family, you could entertain,

You always smile and never complain.

Thank you Grandma, for all you have done,

My appreciation and gratitude, you clearly won.

Just want to wish you, only the best,

With a Grandma like you, I have been blessed.

By Martin Dejnicki

I think the above poem may be shared with any grandmother.

Some grandmothers raise some of their grandchildren and become their guardians. A great example of this is when Michael Grimm's grandparents raised him.

If you read his bio, you will learn that his grandmother was the one that introduced him to music, encouraged him to sing, and believed in him.

That shows us all how grandmothers may influence us to achieve great things.

Michael Grimm was motived to win America's Got Talent, so that he could buy a new home for his grandmother and grandfather. It was obvious that he loves his grandmother very much. Now let's try to express our love for our grandmothers through the next poem.

Precious Grandma

Precious grandma, my love for you is real,

Just a few words, to express how I feel.

You have always, been there for me,

Watched me grow, strong like a tree.

Precious grandma, you define kind,

Image of you, ingrained in my mind.

I hope to repay, with actions and words,

You taught me to fly, free like the birds.

Precious grandma, I'll always be near,

There is nothing for you to fear.

You have taught me, the art of respect,

Your precious heart, I'm here to protect.

A Poem About My Grandmother

Here's a little poem that I wrote about my grandmother. She taught me a lot about life, and about living it honourably and fully. We see each other once every few years, because she lives across the ocean. However, the time that we do share is precious and I feel connected and close to her even when we're thousands of miles apart.

My Grandmother

A very wise lady, that lives all alone,

So many things, she's taught me and shown.

Lives life gracefully, independent and free,

Splendid host, try her cookies with tea.

Smiles a lot, contagiously cheerful,

Brave like a lion, rarely she's fearful.

Mouth-watering dishes, I love when she cooks,

Wisdom in stories, won't find in my books.

She's my grandmother, fantastically unique,

Always listens, when I wish to speak.

She's from the present, future, and past,

The love that she shows me: way beyond vast!

By Martin Dejnicki

The truth is, that poem doesn't even scratch the surface in describing how wonderful and special my grandmother truly is. To me she is the best grandmother in the world. I'm sure you feel the same about yours.

Funny Grandmother Poem

Now, let's try to write a funny grandmother poem that will make your grandma laugh out loud. We all know that laughter is the medicine for the soul, and maybe your grandma needs a little bit of that.

Grandma Forgot

Grandma woke up and went to the store,

Forgot to lock or close her door.

It was clear, she was on a mission,

Daily walks, was her tradition.

This day was definitely - truly strange

Wearing her pajamas, she forgot to change.

As she walked, people began to stare,

Forgot her wig, she had no hair.

Walked on the street, but safely arrived,

Forgot her glasses, luckily survived.

Suddenly stopped, and began to think,

Grandma forgot, she came for a drink.

By Martin Dejnicki

Whenever I get a chance to chat with my grandmother, I make sure that I make her laugh a bit. My goal is always to cheer her up and make sure the remainder of her day is wonderful. All it takes is just a few words.

The reason for this strategy is very simple. I know my grandmother has experienced a lot throughout her life. She survived the Second World War, while many of her family members didn't. The last thing I want is for her to dwell on her sad memories. That's the reason I try to add a little bit of humor into her life, whenever I get a chance.

Grandmother's Day Poem

Here's a sentimental Grandmother's Day poem that you are free to share with your grandmother (s). I learned that in some countries Grandmother's Day is celebrated separately, while in others it is linked with Grandparents Day.

Personally, I think Grandmother's Day should also be celebrated on Mother's Day because grandmas are also mothers.

Happy Grandmother's Day

Dear grandma, today is your day,

You are the star, just want to say.

Expect plenty, hugs and attention,

You deserve, a much higher pension.

If you're hungry, we should definitely eat,

Let's begin, with something real sweet.

How about a delicious cake?

Should we buy one? Or should we bake?

Today is your day, you get to choose,

Let's go shopping, for a nice pair of shoes.

The bottom line, you look great,

I think you're ready, for a hot date.

By Martin Dejnicki

I hope this poem makes your grandma laugh if you decide to share it with her on Grandmother's Day.

As a society we need to acknowledge that both grandmothers and grandfathers are not just seniors, but also vital members of our communities. There is so much that younger generations could learn from them. This is why we need to make sure their voices are heard.

Grandma To Be Poem

Now here's a very unique poem. It's a grandma to be poem, dedicated to all those ladies out there that are super excited about becoming grandma's for the very first time.

First Time Grandma

You've waited for this, for such a long time,

With further delays, it'd be crime.

We all know, you're super excited,

The look on your face, you're purely delighted.

Being a grandma is sometimes a chore,

A little beauty, you will adore.

Lovely baby, shall often amaze,

For many years, you'll love and help raise.

In a few moments, your world will be blessed,

Holding your grandchild, close to your chest.

This special baby, will love you dearly,

Need your guidance, and soft voice - sincerely.

By Martin Dejnicki

It must be a truly amazing feeling for grandmothers laying eyes on their first grandchild for the first time. It must be exhilarating. I know my mother was absolutely thrilled when she became a grandmother just over 10 years ago (sister's first child). I also know that my mother-in-law can't wait to be a grandma as well. Her wishes will soon become reality.

Grandma Birthday Poem

I really had fun writing the following grandma birthday poem. I will share it with my grandmother on her 86th birthday, next March. Feel free to share the poem with your grandma.

Happy Birthday Grandma

Another birthday, another year,

A wonderful grandma, that's your career.

We all enjoy, the simple things,

That life with you, regularly brings.

No need to count, candles or age,

Happiness is a permanent stage.

Inside our hearts, you have place,

You live life, with so much grace.

We enjoy spending time with you,

The love that we share, is honest and true.

We'd like to wish, many more,

Happy birthdays, just like before.

By Martin Dejnicki

Celebrating grandma's birthday, should be a big occasion, and family gathering. Grandma's birthdays represent longevity, and life overall. Another reason we need to celebrate our grandma's birthdays, is because it may be their last. You never really know.

Nana Poem

The next poem is a nana poem. So you won't find the word grandma, or granny or grandmother in it. Some people/children call their grandma, nana simply because they prefer it, or sometimes a grandma prefers to be called that. I totally understand if a grandmother in her 40s or 50s wanting to be called nana instead of grandma. The word grandma may make her seem a lot older then she actually is.

My niece and nephew call my mother, "gramma and baba". I guess it all comes down to preference.

Love You Nana

Love you nana, for leading the way,

Teaching me, about life, work, and play.

Being with you, is obviously fun,

We talk about things, under the sun.

Love you nana, for your support and care,

Your inner beauty, is awesome and rare.

A very cool nana, really laid back,

Thanks for those times, you cut me some slack.

Love you nana, you're exceptionally wise,

I get excited, when I see your bright eyes.

My perfect nana, forever you'll be,

You and I, shall fly since we're free.

By Martin Dejnicki

That nana poem could be shared with your grandma if you're very close to her. I hope she loves it.

The last poem was a bit more difficult/emotional to write, because it's sad. But it was necessary, since it may help some of us express our feelings when our grandma passes away.

Funeral Poem for Grandma

This funeral poem is dedicated to all the wonderful grandma's out there that passed away and left our world and our lives.

Rest In Peace - Loving Grandma

My loving grandma, the day that you left,

Heart filled with pain, felt like a theft.

I feel so much sorrow, deep is my grief,

Now you're not suffering, that's a relief.

I hope sincerely, that you may rest in peace,

My love for you, shall never cease.

I miss you so much, deeply and dearly,

Remember your voice, forever and clearly.

For so many of us, you were our foundation,

A beautiful life, deserves a standing ovation.

Thank you grandma, for selflessly sharing,

My loving grandma, thoughtful and caring.

By Martin Dejnicki

That funeral poem or memorial poem for a grandma was a challenge to write, because while writing it, I was thinking of my paternal grandmother.

She passed away just over a year ago.

I really don't want to end this page on a sad note.

So if you are fortunate to have both or even one of your grandmother's in your life right now, make sure you show these wonderful women how much you love them.

Share some of these poems with them, if you'd like.
